Atmospheric scientist Dr. Scott Krayenhoff explained why cities are heat islands to CBC News.
Krayenhoff said urban surfaces, like a paved sidewalk, feel warmer than a grassy park because of infrared radiation. He also predicted that cities are headed for “climates that we may have never seen.”
A professor in the School of Environmental Sciences, Krayenhoff studies the effects of urban and rural development on local climates through computer modelling.
