U of G research on pet owners passing COVID-19 on to their pets was featured in the Drs. Oz and Roizen syndicated column on Aug. 10th. The column appeared in several U.S. media outlets, including Newsmax.

Oz and Roizen highlight a U of G study released this summer lead by Dr. Dorothee Bienzle and Dr. Scott Weese of the Ontario Veterinary College at U of G. It found that when a pet owner gets COVID-19, 67% of house cats and 43% of dogs also become infected. Most pets are asymptomatic, but some get sick.

The researchers studied 48 cats and 54 dogs from 77 households in which an owner had been diagnosed with COVID-19.
