Dr. Ryan Norris, Department of Integrative Biology, is featured in a CBC News story about the release of more than 700 endangered mottled duskywing butterflies.
Norris leads a project that breeds duskywings in a special lab at the Cambridge Butterfly Conservatory, with the intent of releasing them into a suitable habitat.
Pinery Provincial Park was chosen for the release because of its work to recover and preserve the Oak Savanna habitat the butterfly thrives in. Norris told CBC the released adult butterflies have remained in their new habitat and the females have laid eggs in the area.
Norris researches the behaviour, conservation and evolution of migratory species.
