The University of Guelph’s new critical incident notification system – U of G Alert – sends registered users important messages when a critical incident happens on campus.

All faculty and staff and students currently on campus are registered in the U of G Alert system with their uoguelph.ca email address. Through your U of G Alert account, you can add other contact methods such as your mobile phone number or additional email addresses. That way, if you’re not checking your uoguelph.ca email when an alert is sent, you can still receive it through text message or a call to your mobile phone.

Please add at least one more contact method to your account so you don’t miss crucial alerts.

To add other contact methods:

  1. Go to www.uoguelph.ca/beprepared.
  2. Click the “U of G Alert” button.
  3. Follow the instructions on the U of G Alert main page.

When a critical incident happens

Should a critical incident happen on campus, or if the campus is closed, U of G Alert will send you information about the situation using the contact methods listed in your account. U of G Alert may ask you to confirm you received the message. Update messages will be sent as needed.

The system is powered by Everbridge, a leader in critical event management.

During an emergency, U of G Alert will send:

  • emails from “U of G Alert” (noreply@everbridge.net)
  • text messages (standard text messaging rates apply)
  • phone calls from 800-986-4379

How is U of G Alert different from the Safe Gryphon app?

U of G Alert is the University’s official institution-wide critical incident notification system. Safe Gryphon is a personal safety app from Campus Community Police. Alerts will no longer be sent through the Safe Gryphon app.

Register and win!

The U of G Alert system will be tested June 28 between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m. If you confirm receipt of the test alert and have added at least one other contact method to your U of G Alert account, you could win one of 10 Hospitality Services gift cards worth $25.
