After 365 days of celebration and reflection, Canada 150 has officially come to a close. It was a year of showing pride for the great things we have accomplished as a country and an opportunity to learn from our past to create a better future.

Did you know Canada is home to the world’s largest glow-in-the-dark jellyfish? Or that the Eastern hognose snake plays dead by giving off a funky smell and hanging out its tongue? The Centre for Biodiversity Genomics (@BIObus_Canada) shared 150 of these fun facts about Canadian plants and animals through its Twitter account using #Biodiversity150. - 150 U of G innovations in 150 days

The next time you’re on Beausoleil Island in Georgian Bay Islands National Park, look for U of G’s contemporary art installation. The #Land_Art_Nation piece is part of the Canada 150 LandMarks2017/Repères2017 project – a collaboration of artists, universities, parks and historic sites.

- Learning through lectures
How did Canada grow into the country it is today? U of G experts shared monthly Building Canada lectures at the Guelph Civic Museum that explored many facets that shaped our country. Couldn’t make the lectures? They’re all available on the University’s YouTube channel. - Starting summer off right
U of G kicked off Canada 150 summer with SummerFest on the Green – a massive party with live music, food trucks, a beer garden and activity tents. Canadian singers Fred Penner, BACA, Danny Michel and Midnight Shine had the crowd on their feet and singing along all day.

- Imagining the future
Brilliant minds converged at U of G to reflect on Canada’s past and envision its future.Our Canada 150 symposium, called Reflect and Envision: Food Security/Borders/Indigenous Resistance, drew hundreds of visitors to U of G to consider our past and where we’re headed as a nation. Part of the event was recorded for CBC’s Ideas.
Canada 150 was a year to remember, and U of G is excited to be part of a bright, bold future for Canada.
