The University of Guelph will honour an acclaimed and award-winning European literature professor at fall convocation.
Dr. Sandra Parmegiani, head of European Studies in the School of Languages and Literatures, will be presented with the John Bell Award, which recognizes outstanding contributions to university education.
The event, scheduled for Tuesday, Oct. 15, will welcome more than 800 graduates to the Guelph Gryphons Athletics Centre, including the University’s first master of wildlife biology graduates.

Parmegiani has worked at the University of Guelph since 2007, establishing herself as a leader in cultural heritage and language learning, winning several awards for teaching.
Parmegiani prioritizes student learning while acting as a leader of institutional change. She’s played a vital role in modernizing curricula and is working to develop a new major, integrating Classical and European studies and highlighting IEDI and decolonization as fundamental tenants of this degree.
She embodies the University’s spirit of educational leadership, turning challenges into opportunities to offer rigorous and topical courses.
