Predatory publishing has received a lot of news coverage in the last few years in places like CBC, the New York Times, and The Guardian. Predatory publishing is an opportunistic publishing venue that exploits the academic need to publish but offers little reward for those using the service. This presentation will do a deep dive on predatory publishing and look at how and why it exists, while offering tips on how to avoid it.
