The University has recently launched uoguelph.ca/negotiations, an online hub for collective bargaining updates and information.

This hub will be used to keep the U of G community informed throughout the bargaining process when the University is actively negotiating with an employee group. In addition, the hub contains important information about collective bargaining to help students, faculty and staff better understand the process.

U of G has 13 employee groups, each with their own agreements setting out the terms and conditions of employment with the University. Agreements vary in length and, once expired, must be re-negotiated to arrive at a mutually agreeable new agreement. This process, known as collective bargaining (or negotiations for non-union groups), is crucial for ensuring fair labour practices and fostering a positive relationship between employees and employers.

The collective bargaining process requires a level of confidentiality to ensure open and honest dialogue between negotiating parties. However, the University also recognizes its obligation to provide timely and relevant updates to the broader community. The online hub aims to facilitate sharing this information while supporting a collaborative environment and upholding values of transparency and respect.
