Dr. Scott Weese, pathobiologist at the Ontario Veterinary College, spoke to The New York Times about recent outbreaks of a respiratory illness spreading in dogs across the U.S.

Weese echoed statements he shared with NBC News and NPR, saying that he doesn’t consider the outbreaks to be North American-wide, but has seen spikes in certain regions. Dogs with less social interaction may be more susceptible, he noted.

Weese is an infectious diseases expert in the Department of Pathobiology, a veterinary internal medicine specialist and the chief of infection control at OVC.
