Dr. Madhur Anand, an environmental sciences professor and author in the Ontario Agricultural College, discussed a new report on global deforestation with CBC News Network.
The Global Forest Watch from the World Resources Institute said in its report that an area of tropical forest the size of Switzerland was lost last year. Anand commented on what drives deforestation globally, noting that the greatest pressure comes from the need to clear land for agriculture.
Anand is the director of the Guelph Institute for Environmental Research and a professor in the School of Environmental Sciences.
