The Globe and Mail consulted Gordon S. Lang School of Business and Economics marketing professor Dr. Timothy Dewhirst about the use of athlete endorsements in sports betting ads. 

Dewhirst expressed concern over the promotion of gambling, which has been classified as an addictive behaviour that has potential harm, as well as concerns over potential influences on children. 

In a recent Toronto Star Opinion commentary, Dewhirst discussed several ways the NHL should rethink its playoffs format, including is playoff brackets and points system. 

A senior research fellow in marketing and public policy in the Department of Marketing and Consumer Studies, Dewhirst studies marketing and society and public policy, and brand strategy.
