Ontario Agricultural College microbiologist Dr. Lawrence Goodridge discussed rising cases of norovirus in Canada with several media outlets.
Speaking with the Toronto Star, Goodridge said relaxed pandemic protocols are creating conditions “ripe for norovirus cases to increase.”
Goodridge’s wastewater testing efforts to detect norovirus were highlighted on CBC’s The National.
To CBC Health and Global News Morning B.C., Goodridge explained the norovirus resurgence and offered tips to prevent its spread.
“What we’re seeing are the numbers of infections returning to what was the normal baseline before the pandemic,” he said to CBC Health.
Goodridge is a professor in the Department of Food Science, director of the Canadian Institute for Food Safety and holder of the Leung Family Professorship in Food Science. Since 2020, he has worked with colleagues in the School of Engineering and Department of Pathobiology in wastewater testing.
