Dr. Katie Lebel, a sports business researcher in the Gordon S. Lang School of Business and Economics, discussed with the Toronto Star the WNBA’s plans to hold an exhibition game in Toronto.

Lebel said interest in the women’s game is high in Canada, noting increases in WNBA viewership over the past several seasons on multiple platforms.

“Toronto would not have been selected to host an exhibition game here if the WNBA didn’t think they could sell a lot of tickets.”

A professor in the Department of Management, Lebel researches gender equity, sport fandom, marketing, and communications. She is an affiliated scholar at Tucker Center for Research on Girls & Women in Sport and a member of the National Network for Research on Gender Equity in Canadian Sport.
