Dr. Simon Somogyi against a crimson background
Dr. Simon Somogyi

Dr. Simon Somogyi, an agribusiness researcher in the Gordon S. Lang School of Business and Economics, commented on high food prices and efforts to mitigate them to media outlets.

Somogyi discussed the plausibility of a grocery code of conduct with The Walrus, saying such a code would need to “have a strong watchdog to make sure [it] is enforced.”

In regards to high prices for holiday turkeys and meals, Somogyi told the Ottawa Citizen: “The price of grain has skyrocketed, in part because of the conflict in the Ukraine. The conflict has affected the price of all grains. Meat has been affected by grain prices.”

The Arrell Chair in the Business of Food and a professor in the School of Hospitality, Food and Tourism Management, Somogyi researches agri-food value chain analysis and management.
