Dr. Simon Somogyi, an agribusiness researcher in the Gordon S. Lang School of Business and Economics, appeared on a special edition of CBC Radio’s The Current, called “Eating the Costs”, to discuss the Competition Bureau’s investigation into grocery prices.
Somogyi said the bureau should look at other industries and profiteering, noting the situation with grocers isn’t an isolated case but a trend. He also said the bureau’s investigation provides an opportunity for Canadians to better understand supply chains and the grocery industry.
Recently, Somogyi made headlines while discussing food price inflation, vegetable oil prices and allegations of grocer price collusion.
Somogyi, Arrell Chair in the Business of Food and professor in the School of Hospitality, Food and Tourism Management, researches agri-food value chain analysis and management.
