Ontario Veterinary College avian immunologist Dr. Shayan Sharif co-wrote an opinion piece in The Globe and Mail on how a One Health approach could prevent further avian flu outbreaks.

Sharif examined the causes behind the outbreaks before concluding a One Health approach could “prevent (threats) to domestic poultry, wildlife and human health (and the emergence of) pathogens at regional, national, and global scales.”

Sharif is a professor in the Department of Pathobiology and the associate dean of research and graduate studies. He researches the chicken immunology, including avian influenza virus.
