I am deeply saddened to learn of the hateful vandalism that was found following a classroom break-in early this morning. I want the University community to know that hatred in any form – including anti-Black and misogynistic sentiments as appeared in this case – have no place at the University of Guelph and will not be tolerated. I join our community in strongly condemning such hurtful actions and words.

Our commitment to establishing a culture that affords every single member of our community the opportunity to grow and thrive lays a successful foundation for all of us. Following today’s act of hatred, I know there are some in our community who may feel particularly vulnerable at this time. I want you to know that there are supports available including:

  • Student Counselling Services: 519-824-4120 ext. 53244
  • Cultural Diversity Advisor (for students): 519-824-4120 ext. 54680 or book an appointment
  • Good2Talk: 1-866-925-5454 or text “UofG” to 686868
  • Employee Assistance Program (for faculty and staff): 1-800-265-8310

We will also host a space for students, faculty and staff to join together in healing. More details will be provided early next week.

The University of Guelph is firmly committed to Indigenization, diversity, equity and inclusion as well as upholding the values of fairness and mutual respect. Creating learning, working, and living environments where everyone feels safe, valued, and a strong sense of belonging is an institutional imperative.
