In its spring preview 2022 roundup, CBC Books has included creative writing professor Lawrence Hill’s children’s book, Beatrice and Croc Harry.
Hill’s latest book is the top pick in Canadian middle-grade and is about “a young girl who wakes up all alone in a treehouse in the woods” and befriends King Crocodile Croc Harry.
In 2016, Hill joined U of G’s School of English and Theatre Studies. His areas of expertise include global and Canadian Black history, slavery and freedom, human rights, migration, the search for home, mixed-race identity, blood as a marker of individual and collective identity, and the experiences of refugees. Among his award-winning novels are The Book of Negroes and The Illegal.
