COVID-19 Update: Feb. 22, 2022

U of G’s COVID-19 Wastewater Report dashboard reports on the presence of SARS-CoV-2 (the virus that causes COVID-19) in on-campus residence wastewater.

The dashboard has been updated to show daily levels as well as how the wastewater signal for SARS-CoV-2 is trending in each building.

Results from each building are reviewed daily and the Wastewater Surveillance Panel meets regularly to discuss overall signals and trends. Following its review, the Panel may recommend a course of action to help reduce further risk.

How to rapid test

To support our community’s health and safety, COVID-19 rapid testing kits are now available to all students, faculty and staff working or studying on site. Learn more about where to pick up kits on our Rapid Testing Program web page.

Testing is not mandatory – except for those with an approved exemption – but may help our community members better understand their health. Remember: If you feel sick, stay home.

Ontario’s Science Advisory Table has provided new advice on how to use a rapid antigen test at home to achieve more accurate results. You can view the video instructions on YouTube.

Accessing U of G athletic facilities and restaurants as of March 1

The province is lifting requirements for proof of vaccination in high-risk settings (including gyms and restaurants) as of March 1. At U of G, you will still be required to show the result of your U of G COVID-19 Daily Screening Form to access athletic facilities and on-campus restaurants, but you will not be asked to provide your enhanced vaccination certificate with QR code.

We’re all in this together

In many ways, adjusting to life as we move out of the pandemic is harder than adjusting to life when it began. The pandemic has made it clear that we each have our own way of assessing risks and how we will respond to them. As individuals, we are facing more choices about our comfort in engaging in specific situations and activities. As a community, we will navigate those risks while focusing on safely advancing our teaching and research priorities.

We are all part of the University of Guelph community. Voicing our opinions, and doing so respectfully, is essential to creating safe space for discourse. Finding common ground when we disagree with each other will help us grow stronger together.

These are uncomfortable days for many of us. Let’s be patient with one another as we find our way through this next stage together.

The University’s COVID-19 website is your best source of information on U of G’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic. The Return to Campuses website provides essential information for those coming to campus. If you need to be on campus, make sure you complete the U of G COVID-19 Screening Form every day before you arrive.
