On the Feb. 23 episode of TVO’s new program “The Thread,” agribusiness researcher Dr. Simon Somogyi discussed the reasons behind the so-called “perfect storm” of conditions that have led to many Canadians seeing increased food prices and shortages.
Somogyi pointed out that the rise in food prices “is now in some ways creating an understanding of where our food comes from,” which ultimately leads to customers becoming more informed about their purchases.
The Arrell Chair in the Business of Food and a professor in the School of Hospitality, Food and Tourism Management, Somogyi researches agri-food value chain analysis and management and international market development.
