Food economist Dr. Michael von Massow recently made headlines discussing high beef prices and cellular foods.
Speaking to CBC News in Calgary, von Massow noted that increasing costs all along the supply chain helps explain the current disconnect between cattle and beef prices.
While discussing cellular agriculture with Postmedia News, von Massow said the growing industry in developing and producing cellular foods could be worth $12.5 billion and “it’s just a question of whether Canada gets its share of that market.”
Von Massow also recently co-authored a commentary for The Conversation Canada on cellular foods along with Arrell Food Institute director Dr. Evan Fraser.
A professor in the Department of Food Agriculture and Resource Economics in the Ontario Agricultural College, von Massow studies the structure and performance of food supply chains.
