The most recent U of G Board of Governors meeting was held June 23. Below are key highlights from the meeting. A full synopsis of the meeting is available on the University Secretariat’s website.

New Board Committee Structure

The Board approved changes to its committee structure that will see the current Governance & Human Resources Committee split into a Governance Committee and Human Resources & Membership Committee. This change will help facilitate increased engagement by internal governors at the committee level.

In addition, the Physical Resources & Property Committee will be renamed the Physical & Digital Infrastructure Committee to reflect its expanded mandate relative to major IT projects.

Board Membership Changes

The Board closed off its governance year by thanking departing members for their service and welcoming new members. Leaving the Board of Governors this year are Melanie McCaig, Stuart McCook, Neil Parkinson, Carol Poulsen, Irene Thompson and Nicole Walker.

Joining the Board on Sept. 1 are:

  • Kelly Bertrand, a staff-elected member and director, library administration services
  • Ryan Gregory, a Senate-elected faculty member and chair of the department of integrative biology
  • Justin Mihaly, an undergraduate-elected member and University of Guelph-Humber student
  • PJ Moore, a Board-appointed member and expert in digital transformation and change management

The next regular Board of Governors meeting will take place on Oct. 20, 2021. Regular board meetings are open to the public. Guests wishing to view the meeting may request to do so by emailing univsec@uoguelph.ca.
