Psychology professor Dr. Harvey Marmurek spoke to CTVNews.ca and CBC London’s Afternoon Drive about his recent research on the problem gambling risk of those who bet on sports lotteries.
The study, published in the Journal of Gambling Studies and completed with master’s students Alysha Cooper and Katrina Olfert in the Department of Mathematics and Statistics, found that those who bet on sports lotteries were much different from those who engage in other forms of gambling.
Marmurek researches several aspects of applied cognitive science in the Department of Psychology, including risky decision-making among gamblers, the mechanisms of attention and word recognition processes in skilled reading.
