The University of Guelph joins other Canadians in mourning for victims of the catastrophic warehouse explosion in Beirut on Aug. 4. 

 As of Thursday morning, the blast had killed at least 135 people, injured thousands of others and left many more homeless in Lebanon’s capital.  

 “As we have been reminded more than once this year, events around the world touch us here at home,” said Charlotte Yates, president and vice-chancellor. “Our thoughts go out to those most directly affected by this tragic incident as well as those working to provide healing now and in days to come in Lebanon.”  

 She added: “We are also thinking about our students, faculty and staff who live in or have family and friends in Beirut.”
