Prof. Keith Warriner, Department of Food Science, spoke to CBC News about Amazon.ca’s grocery products that arrived past their best-before date.
CBC News examined 2018-19 customer reviews for various grocery items, discovering many complaints about food delivered past its prime.
Warriner, an expert in food safety and food microbiology, was quoted in the CBC News story saying Amazon has a corporate responsibility to ensure customers receive good food products. Selling a product like infant formula that is expired, as several customers reported, is problematic because the product may have lost some of its nutrients, he said.
“You basically could be giving your baby food that’s deficient,” Warriner said.
