Student Wellness is now settled in their new space within the John T. Powell Building (beside the Athletics Centre) and will be celebrating with two open houses this week.

Alison Burnett, director of Student Wellness, is looking forward to showcasing what the department has to offer.

“We’re excited to be able to offer our students an integrated health and wellness service model,” she says.  “Using feedback from students who have used our services over the past several years, we’ve come up with a more streamlined approach to ensuring students’ wellness needs are met. We hope this will help to improve their overall experience within both our department and at the University of Guelph.”

Following the faculty and staff Community Breakfast on Sept. 4, staff, faculty and community members are invited to tour the newly renovated building and learn more about the many services Student Wellness has to offer students and the community. There will also be a draw for three $50 vouchers for the Health and Performance Centre (HPC).

An open house for students and the public is planned for Sept. 5, from 4 to 7 p.m. Several activities will be taking place, including tours of the new facilities, an outdoor farmers market, resource table, free popcorn and a visit from the Gryph N’ Grille, which will be parked nearby. Guests who complete a scavenger hunt within the building will win a voucher for free fries from the Gryph N’ Grille and will be invited to fill out a ballot for one of five $20 Shoppers Drug Mart gift cards.

Guests at both events will have the opportunity to talk with staff and volunteers from all seven units of Student Wellness, including Accessibility Services, Counselling Services, HPC, Health Services, Sexual Violence Supports, Student Support Network, and the Wellness Education and Promotion Centre.

The Arrell Food Institute’s “Greenroom” has been constructed between the first and second floors of the new space. Guests are invited to share their photos via Instagram, Facebook and Twitter by tagging Student Wellness for a second chance to win a Shoppers’ Drug Mart gift card.

Everyone is welcome!
