Prof. Sonia Dhaliwal, who teaches accounting in U of G’s Gordon S. Lang School of Business and Economics, spoke to CBC Business News about a new Canada Revenue Agency report that found that Canadian companies avoided paying up to $11.4-billion worth of taxes.
Dhaliwal commented that while the figure seems high, she’s not convinced that Canada has a rampant problem with corporate tax evasion. She said most Canadian companies, big and small, “try their best to be compliant.”
Dhaliwal is a certified professional accountant with a master’s in taxation She teaches taxation and accounting at the undergrad and graduate levels in the Department of Management.
