Skull and crossbones image on a laptop screenWith the support of University leadership, CCS Information Security has crafted a position statement on ransomware. The threat of ransomware has become more pervasive over the past year and affected several higher education institutions.

Ransomware is a type of malicious software that encrypts your files. The criminals who infect your system with the software then demand you pay a ransom or fee to them before they will decrypt the files and give you access again.

The statement takes the position that a ransom should never be paid.

Read the full statement on ransomware and learn more about:

  • why ransom shouldn’t be paid
  • measures you can take to avoid ransomware infection, and
  • how Information Security can help after a ransomware attack.

The Information Security team also has additional educational resources on ransomware and many other security-related topics.
