Prof. Myrna Dawson with U of G’s Department of Sociology & Anthropology offered comment the The Globe and Mail on the case of a Saskatoon police officer who was granted a conditional discharge after admitting to a sexual assault.
The Saskatoon Police Service is now conducting an administrative review to decide whether the officer should keep his job.
Dawson, a professor in the Department of Sociology & Anthropology, says the outcome of the review could have an impact on public trust, particularly among sexual assault victims.
Dawson is the Canada Research Chair in Public Policy in Criminal Justice. Her research focuses on trends in and social and legal responses to violence , particularly violence against women and femicide.
She is also the director of U of G’s Centre for the Study of Social and Legal Responses to Violence and the Canadian Femicide Observatory for Justice and Accountability.
