Prof. Simon Somogyi, Arrell Chair in the Business of Food, will address the Senate of Canada’s Standing Committee on Agriculture and Forestry on Thursday, March 21 in Ottawa.
The Senate is exploring how Canada’s value-added food sector can be more competitive in global markets.
Derek Vella, manager of the Guelph Food Innovation Centre at U of G, will also address the standing committee.
Somogyi is an expert in food consumers and the food supply chain, particularly related to Asia. He will speak to the Senate about the need to foster on-farm value-added products, especially high-value food products with export opportunities.
