Laurie Schnarr, the University of Guelph’s director (student experience), has been named vice-provost (students) at the University of Manitoba. The appointment takes effect June 1.
“This is a wonderful opportunity for Laurie,” said Carrie Chassels, U of G’s vice-provost (student affairs). “While we are sorry to see her go, this is an exciting new position for Laurie and we wish her the very best as she takes on this significant leadership role.”
Chassels commended Schnarr for her many accomplishments throughout her 36-year career at U of G, including the introduction of high-impact innovative student life programs.
More recently, Schnarr played a pivotal role in the establishment of the Aboriginal Resource Centre, the Office of Intercultural Affairs, and several programs and services that promote student engagement and success, particularly for marginalized and at-risk populations.
“It has been a privilege to serve as a member of Student Affairs at the University of Guelph, and to work alongside my immensely talented Student Experience colleagues and student staff,” says Schnarr.
“I know that students at the U of G will continue to benefit from the hard work and dedication of this outstanding team.”
