U of G Prof. Richard Moccia was interviewed on CBC Radio’s Here and Now about how he helped locate a lost hiker on southern Ontario’s Bruce Trail via a social media posting.

Moccia, a professor in the Department of Animal Biosciences, volunteers with the Bruce Trail to inspect and maintain a trail section between Wiarton and Tobermory. He told CBC that he noticed a Facebook post from a woman who had been hiking a section of the trail familiar to him. After Moccia called authorities, searchers rescued the woman that night.

A volunteer trail captain and sawyer for the Bruce Trail for many years, he received the William Winegard Exemplary Volunteer Involvement Award in 2015.
