U of G Prof. Claire Jardine appeared in CBC News and Yahoo News stories June 22 about how raccoons with easy access to human food waste have higher blood glucose levels.
Jardine was part of a group of Ontario researchers studying whether urban raccoons eating human foods had similar health problems to humans. A professor in the Department of Pathobiology at the Ontario Veterinary College, she collected blood samples from 60 anesthetized live raccoons for the study.
Jardine studies wildlife health and diseases in wild animal populations.
