Prof. Jess Haines was featured in news stories published in the Globe and Mail and Huffington Post Dec. 13 about the booming meal kit industry.
According to market research, meal kits – offering consumers a menu of pre-portioned ingredients and a recipe for an easy, healthful meal – have grown into a $120-million industry in Canada. Haines said the meals are a good option for people who work long hours or lack time to shop for groceries, and said many of the meals appear to be healthful.
At U of G, Haines is a professor in the Department of Family Relations and Applied Nutrition. She directs U of G’s parent-child feeding laboratory that looks at how parent-child feeding interactions influence eating behaviours.
