New U of G research on melatonin supplements is making headlines. The study by PhD student Lauren Erland and plant scientist Prof. Praveen Saxena found that most melatonin supplements sold over the counter do not contain the amount of the hormone listed on the label, and about 25 per cent contain unlabelled serotonin. Media reports have appeared in the Toronto Star, the Daily Mail in London and on CTV news, among others.
