First-year biology student Sara Kuwatly was profiled in the Globe and Mail Dec. 8 as part of a feature on the challenges of Syrian refugees who have recently moved to Canada.

Kuwatly, who fled with her family from the war-torn region, discussed how she is adjusting to living in Guelph and away from her family, as well as how student groups and the University have assisted her.

She is sponsored by the Student Refugee Program run by the local chapter of the World University Service of Canada (WUSC), an international development organization based in Ottawa. U of G student Carly MacArthur, Student Refugee Program coordinator, was also interviewed for the story.
