The University of Guelph is mourning the death of a student in South Residence this morning.
The family has been notified, but the student’s name has not been released to the public. The cause of death is unknown and under investigation by Guelph Police. At this time, there is no indication of a public safety risk.
The University’s Counselling Services is working with Student Housing Services to provide support for the residence community. The student lived in Prairie Hall, part of South Residence.
“We are deeply saddened by this news, and my heart goes out to the family and friends of this student,” said president Franco Vaccarino.
“As a community, there is no greater struggle than losing one of our own, and we will ensure that students affected by this tragedy receive support and assistance.”
