An Ontario Veterinary College (OVC) professor and a staffer were the focus of a Globe and Mail story Oct. 22 on women in veterinary medicine. For the past decade, women have held about 80 per cent of the spots in Canadian veterinary schools. Prof. Michelle Oblak, Clinical Studies, and Elizabeth Lowenger, manager of student affairs at OVC, were interviewed for the story. Lowenger said OVC admissions will remain gender-blind, and said admissions professionals encourage both males and females to consider veterinary medicine. Oblak said she hopes to dispel gender stereotypes and help students find a career they love.
