The announcement was made today by Charlotte Yates, provost and vice-president (academic), who chaired the search committee.

“Karen has years of experience in leadership positions in the public sector and university environment,” Yates said.

“She has an extensive background in institutional planning, budgeting and decision-making, and will bring fresh perspectives and ideas — along with knowledge, passion and energy — to the position. Please join me in welcoming her to U of G.”

Menard was the chief planning and administrative officer for the Ontario Institute for Cancer Research from 2012 to 2015, and served as the associate vice-president (institutional research and analysis) at McMaster University from 2007 to 2012.

She holds a PhD and master’s degree from the University of Waterloo, and a bachelor’s degree from Carleton University. She also completed McMaster’s Executive Management Program.

In making the announcement, Yates thanked Cathy Beattie for serving as interim assistant vice-president in resource planning and analysis.

Yates also thanked the search committee for its service and time commitment.
