It was a medal-winning weekend for University of Guelph athletics. The women’s and men’s cross-country teams won team gold at the 2015 Ontario University Athletics (OUA) championships and the  women’s rugby and women’s field hockey teams won silver medals.

In cross-country, the Gryphons have now captured 12 straight OUA women’s titles and 11 on the men’s side — an OUA record for the most consecutive titles. This year’s event was held at the University of Waterloo.

The men’s team won the team title this year by the narrowest of margins, beating the University of Windsor by only one point. Both teams will now compete in the Canadian Interuniversity Sport (CIS) championships November 14, which are being held at U of G.

In women’s rugby, the Gryphons was defeated by McMaster University in the championship match, 21-13 on Saturday. It’s U of G’s third silver medal in as many seasons. The loss means the team will not compete in the CIS tournament for the first time since 2004.

The women’s field hockey team played in the OUA championship match in Toronto. They lost to the University of Toronto, 4-3. The team now moves on to the CIS tournament that begins Thursday in Victoria.
