Prof. John Walsh has been appointed to a third five-year term as vice-provost of the University of Guelph-Humber.

The announcement was made today by Charlotte Yates, the University of Guelph’s provost and vice-president (academic), and Laurie Rancourt, vice-president (academic), of Humber College Institute of Technology and Advanced Learning.

“John is a strong leader who will continue to build on our past successes and serve the future needs of students,” Yates said.

“During this time of transition at both schools, his reappointment was imperative to ensuring sustainability of this highly successful partnership.”

Rancourt added: “I am looking forward to working with John as he continues to lead this unique institution, providing our students with an unparalleled education that balances in-depth knowledge with practical experience.”

The only one of its kind in Canada, the Guelph-Humber partnership allows students to earn both a university honours degree and a college diploma in four years. Programs are taught by faculty from both institutions.

Guelph-Humber launched classes in fall 2002. Since 2004, the university has occupied its own state-of-the-art building on the Humber north campus.

First appointed in 2005, Walsh oversees Guelph-Humber academics and administration.

“I welcome the opportunity to continue working with an outstanding team of educators and administrators,” he said.

“The delivery of dual credential programs through an integrated curriculum that combines both applied and theoretical learning lies at the heart of what we do. This is a university and college partnership that works, and I am tremendously excited to be part of it.”

Previously, Walsh served as director of U of G’s then-School of Hospitality and Tourism Management and as associate dean of the former Faculty of Management. He was also acting vice-president, academic, and acting president of Royal Roads University in British Columbia.
