The majority of Ontarians rank universities highly for their contributions to society in the form of research, science and health care, according to a recent survey by the Council of Ontario Universities.

Universities scored highly for how they benefit the province; 88 per cent of Ontarians ranked universities’ contributions as important, just behind hospitals at 92 per cent, and elementary and high schools at 90 per cent.

Eighty-seven per cent of those surveyed believe that students benefit greatly from attending university.

Of those respondents who attended university, 83 per cent said their education played a role in their career success and almost half said it contributed greatly. Ninety-four per cent said their children were likely to apply to or attend university.
