Professors from six Indonesian universities are on campus for three weeks of workshops about “The Promise and Practice of Community Engaged Scholarship.” Their visit is part of a broader project funded by the Canadian International Development Agency on supporting Islamic leadership in Indonesia.
The professors, who are from Alaudin State Islamic University and the State Islamic Institute of Sunan Ampel, will be on campus until July 5.
The goal is to introduce them to mechanisms used in higher education that link community and universities, and that promote democratic governance, including the inclusion of women in education and society. The visitors will also learn how community-based research and other collaborative methods might be used to build a civil society.
They are attending workshops headed by U of G professors and staff on community-based research and scholarship and engagement, international programs, strategic partnerships and other topics.
