Former Ontario Veterinary College (OVC)  dean Alan Meek has been awarded the Ontario Veterinary Medical Association (OVMA) Golden Life Membership Award. The presentation was made Jan. 25 during the annual OVMA conference. The award recognizes individuals who have served the profession in an extraordinary manner throughout their careers in veterinary medicine.

A well-known educator, researcher, author and mentor, Meek joined the OVC faculty in 1978 and retired in 2008. Many veterinarians recognize him not only as an OVC professor and dean, but also as co-author of what was the leading veterinary epidemiology text for DVM students. He has also served on provincial and national boards related to veterinary medicine and public health.

In retirement, Meek continues to volunteer for special projects for OVC and the University of Guelph. In 2011, he was named an honorary fellow of the University and a life member of the Canadian Veterinary Medical Association.
