University of Guelph-Humber justice studies students Courtney Carter, Muhammad Waqas Abbas and Mike Schwartz placed first in the annual Crime Scene Investigation (CSI) competition at Mount St. Mary’s University in Emmitsburg, Maryland, reclaiming the title Guelph-Humber students first won in 2009.

When presented with the staged crime scene, team members collected forensic evidence that required them to apply what they had learned in their classes to a real-life situation. “It was extremely helpful to be able to take all of the information I had been taught in my forensics class and use it hands-on,” said team member Courtney Carter. “I was able to see fingerprints and handprints first-hand, as well as bullet casings.”

This was the seventh annual CIS competition held at Mount St. Mary’s. The University of Guelph-Humber has participated since 2009.
