Eleven undergraduate students have been selected to represent U of G at the 2011 Agri-Marketing Conference in Kansas City. They are one of two Canadian teams who will be at the April competition.

The team members were chosen “for their passion for agriculture and interest in marketing and communications,” says Elizabeth Schouten, student chapter president. The students are studying in a range of fields, including agricultural business, organic agriculture, marketing management and agricultural economics.

Team members are: Anne Borgijink, Rebecca Hannam, Erin Harris, Leigh Hudson, Sarah McIntosh, Rebecca Richards, David Schouten, Elizabeth Schouten, Cara van Burck, Ben Versteeg and Rachel Weber.

“We are an eager and hard-working group of students,” says Schouten, “and we look forward to representing the University of Guelph on an international level.”

The team will develop a marketing plan for a chosen agricultural product and present their plan in competition against other agriculture college teams from across North America. The event is sponsored by the National Agri-Marketing Association.

Prof. Andreas Boecker, Food, Agricultural and Resource Economics, is the team’s faculty adviser. He will be working with the team as they choose an agricultural product, conduct market research, write a marketing plan and prepare a presentation for the competition.
