Retired Prof. Samuel Sidlofsky died Aug. 6 at the age of 84. He was a longtime faculty member in the Department of Sociology and Anthropology. His department started a retirement tribute prize when he retired in 1991, and it’s now awarded annually in honour of all retiring department faculty. A department scholarship in his name is also awarded yearly to the student with the highest aggregate mark in courses that address prejudice, race, ethnicity, discrimination and/or aging.

He is survived by his wife, Shirley; children Judith and James; and four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
