Prof. David Kribs has been appointed chair of the Department of Mathematics and Statistics. He begins his three-year term Sept. 1.

A faculty member at Guelph since 2003, Kribs has taught at both the undergraduate and graduate levels, including taking part in a number of international summer schools. His current research program is based in the interdisciplinary field of quantum information, where he seeks to develop a mathematical foundation for emerging disciplines such as quantum computing.  He is also a member of the Perimeter Institute for Theoretical Physics in Waterloo.

Kribs earned a B.Sc. in mathematics from the University of Western Ontario and a master’s degree and PhD in pure mathematics from the University of Waterloo. He completed  post-docs at Iowa, Purdue and Lancaster University in England.

His award include the University of Western Ontario’s gold medal for mathematics, a Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council (NSERC) post-doctoral fellowship, an Ontario Early Researcher Award, an NSERC Discovery Accelerator Supplement and a Presidential Distinguished Professor Award.
