U of G will be offering two new majors and a graduate diploma, additions that were approved by Senate during its May 31 meeting.
A new co-op option will be introduced to the nanoscience major. Guelph was the first Canadian university to offer a full nanoscience major. The co-op option will involve students completing four to five work terms in addition to identified courses for the program. The goal is to have 25 co-op students enter the program each year.
A new environmental geoscience and geomatics major will be offered as part of the B.Sc. program. The new offering reflects recent developments in environmental geoscience and will replace the existing major in earth surface science.
A new graduate diploma in food safety and quality assurance has been created due to the increasing importance of food safety and food quality, both to consumers and for international trade. It’s aimed at food scientists, food engineers, veterinarians and others working in related fields. Faculty will come from the departments of Food Science and Marketing and Consumer Studies and the Ontario Veterinary College. The diploma will be offered via distance education through Open Learning.
