Chancellor emeritus Lincoln Alexander has been honoured by his hometown of Hamilton, Ont., by having a police horse named for him. A new mounted unit of black Percherons was introduced to the community May 12 during Police Week.

The large horses, 173 centimetres tall from the ground to their neck, were named through a competition among local school students.  An article in the Hamilton Spectator says Kevin Aiguire, 12, from Billy Green School chose the name Lincoln “because Lincoln Alexander is a good man.”

Alexander is also an honorary Hamilton chief of police.
